« PRELUDE »
A collection of furniture and accessories
produced by THE GALLERY in a limited edition
USIN-e is the label created by two young and promising designers from Lyon:
Amaury Poudray and Rémi Bouhaniche.
Amaury and Rémi both attended the Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design (ESAD) in Saint Etienne, France, and after a period of study in the United States and India respectively, decided to start a common creative activity.
Featured by VIA in Paris in 2009, where Rémi’s « Etirement » hanging lamp was exhibited, and by Maria Cristina Didero and Susanna Legrenzi, who have shown one of their works at the « 13.798 grammi di design » exhibition at Lambretto Art Project during the Salone del mobile di Milano 2010, USIN-e can already boast some works produced in France by the new label « Petite Friture » and by Granville Gallery.
Amaury and Rémi approach materials in order to discover all their potential, be it technical, aesthetic or sensorial.
New and ancient materials, rigid and supple forms merge and offset one another giving rise to tensions and paradoxes. Situations which stimulate the observer's sensitivity while questioning their certainties in a language inevitably leading from paradox to the uncertainty of its very existence without cancelling the poetical shade of their young and fresh expression.
« Prelude »
Amaury Poudray and Rémi Bouhaniche have designed their collection « Prelude» specifically for this exhibition.
« Prelude», which is produced by THE GALLERY, consists of 7 items in rattan (4 pieces are furniture that will be produced in a numbered and limited edition of 20 pieces, and 3 are large baskets).
Here is the authors’ comment on their new collection « Prelude»:
« What we aim at is creating a link between things apparently in contrast: persons, techniques, materials. Creating paradoxes, tension and lightness, emptiness and fragility, like the world around us. »
The rattan weaving is the work of the "vannerie" sector of E.S.A.T. GALLIENI in Villeurbanne (France) which, since 1911, has offered visually-impaired workers the opportunity to have a professional life, thus fostering their autonomy and social integration.
